Position Summary

The Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering (CCEE) in the School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenured faculty position as a Lecturer or Professor of Practice in the field of construction engineering and construction management to join our growing department starting in Fall 2024.

The candidate will be expected to contribute to the CCEE Department’s mission to educate future leaders in civil, construction, and environmental engineering. The Department currently has 17 faculty members, several research professors, 250 undergraduate students, and 90 graduate students. The Department is housed in the Centennial Engineering Center, which contains state-of-the-art civil and construction engineering laboratories.

To qualify, candidates should have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management by the appointment date. Alternatively, the candidate could have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management and a Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline such as architecture, management or planning. Applicants will be evaluated on these preferred qualifications: (1) minimum of 5 years of US construction industry experience; (2) minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, or the demonstrable ability to teach, in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management, including, but not limited to cost estimating, scheduling, structures for construction, building information modeling, or equipment planning and operations; (3) commitment to work with undergraduate students and interact with members of the local construction community; and (4) demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications must be consistent with Higher Learning Commission standards and compliant with the faculty hiring guidelines.

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management. Alternatively, the candidate could have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management and a Master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline such as architecture, management or planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of US construction industry experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, or the demonstrable ability to teach, in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management, including, but not limited to cost estimating, scheduling, structures for construction, building information modeling, or equipment planning and operations
  • Commitment to work with undergraduate students and interact with members of the local construction community
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

The Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering will hire one faculty member from req 27517, Lecturer II/III, and req 27608, Professor of Practice.
