Position Summary

The College of Education and Human Sciences’ (COEHS) Research Office seeks applicants for the Program Coordinator position to support the "Native Oral Histories Archiving Project." This project is housed under the American Indian Language Policy Research and Teacher Training Center. The Center aims to serve as a local and national center of collaborative research that examines major policy issues affecting the survival and maintenance of American Indian languages. Developing and providing native language teacher training programs and technical assistance support for American Indian tribes engaged in language maintenance and preservation initiatives is another key aspect of the Center’s outreach and service.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Oversees a range of specialized administrative support for the project.
  • Serves as the main point of contact with internal and external constituencies for matters concerning the program’s activities, outreach, and community participation.
  • Provides community outreach, program planning and implementation support with Native communities including organizing meetings, planning and workshop coordination, and maintaining general correspondence with all participants and stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and maintains communication with project PI, ancillary project staff, and project consultants regarding partnership activities with tribal communities.
  • Monitors, reconciles, and assists with fiscal administration for the program including: budgets, travel, and purchasing.
  • Coordinates the development and distribution of materials, reports, and communications to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains records and assists Director with preparing reports and project summaries.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge or Experience working with Native communities in the state of New Mexico.
  • Knowledge or Experience working with tribal libraries or archival repositories.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies from diverse communities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Native American Studies, Museum Studies, Native American Education or a related field.
