Position Summary

The University of NewMexico Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce the creation of a Program Manager position for the AsianAmerican Pacific Islander (AAPI) Resource Center. The Division of StudentAffairs (DSA) provides access, support, and encouragement to all students inpursuit of academic excellence in the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) diversecommunity. The DSA is the primary student services provider for theinstitution’s large and varied student population and is comprised of departmentsthat are home to support services for students from diverse ethnic backgroundsand for women; student health care; campus housing; student entertainment andrecreation; academic support services; child care; professional development andcareer services; and the student union.

The Asian AmericanPacific Islander Resource Center missionis centered in fostering aneducational climate based upon diversity, inclusiveness, and building a senseof belonging for AAPI students. The ProgramManager position offers a unique opportunity to further develop and shapethe future of the AAPI Resource Center, positively impact AAPI student life atUNM, advance strategic planning and program development opportunities, assessprogram resource needs, collaborate with university stakeholders, and enhancecommunity partnerships. This multifaceted position includes delivery of studentsupport programs and services, holistic and integrated academic advisement,mentorship initiatives, and cultural events highlighting expanded learning andcollective engagement approaches. Theindividual selected for this position will:

  • Manage the development, planning, oversight, and implementation of all AAPI student support programming and services grounded in a Student Affairs framework of student belonging, empowerment, and diversity within the UNM campus community.
  • Provide & coordinate comprehensive academic advising, financial aid & scholarship guidance career counseling, and student support services for prospective, new, and current UNM students.
  • Coordinate academic intervention and retention programming activities and serve as a student advocate.
  • Supervise and lead personnel functions to include recruitment, hiring, training, delegation of work assignments, ensuring appropriate employee implementation of department processes & procedures, coaching, and staff performance evaluations.
  • Manage the budget components for all unit funding streams (SFRB, I&G, grants, and/or state funding), including but not limited to: expenditure planning, reconciling processes, monthly & annual fiscal reporting, annual operating budget development, fiscal efficiencies, and the coordination of proposal writing to develop and secure additional financial resources.
  • Coordinate and systematize the collection, assembly, and analysis of program and student activity/use data for incorporation into comprehensive reports that include statistics, demography, interpretation, and historical components.
  • Develop assessment tools and actions to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of programming and campus partner events through the use of surveys, analysis of participant data, and other statistics that detail positive practices & evidence-based features.
  • Lead annual unit assessment processes aligned with the Division of Student Affairs system(s).
  • Lead the development, design, and production of public relations and marketing strategies for the unit’s website, social media platforms, videos, and print materials that incorporate best practices for optimal engagement with (AAPI) students and communities.
  • Develop and implement campus partnership engagement programs/events that enhance and advance AAPI culture, academic support and resources, social activities, and university recruitment/outreach efforts, and social activities.
  • Represent the unit and AAPI student community in a variety of division-specific and university committees and task force initiatives, and serve as a representative in non-institution events and initiatives aligned with the unit’s mission.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience 2 of which are management level experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstratedproficiency/experience in:

  • Providing holistic advising and support grounded in Student Affairs frameworks to a diverse AAPI student community by appropriately addressing academic, cultural, and personal challenges.
  • Developing resources for AAPI students including educational materials, campus referral processes, and leadership opportunities.
  • Designing & implementing student-centered programs and peer mentorship initiatives, including but not limited to: curriculum development, staff training, and facilities/logistics coordination.
  • Evaluating academic records and formal documents and interpreting department, college, and university academic requirements for degree-granting programs; implementing knowledge of academic standards regarding probation and suspension processes & procedures; and providing federal financial aid and institutional, departmental, and private scholarship advisement and search processes.
  • Collecting and analyzing student engagement data, program impact and outcomes, and resource utilization demonstrating that AAPI student needs are being met.
  • Generating & developing reports, spreadsheets, and databases: and maintaining program/project records and statistical information utilizing Excel, Access, Hyperion, MyReports and Banner.
  • Expenditure planning, budget tracking and reconciliation, monthly and annual reporting, compliance and auditing, and projecting future financial needs for Student Affairs programs and services based on student enrollment trends, historical spending, and anticipated transitions or changes.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and creating design sets and copy for print publications, digital & web-based communications and social media platforms utilizing Adobe Creative applications: Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Express, and Photoshop.
  • Effectively communicating and interacting with various organizations, higher education entities; and individuals representing a wide range of diverse communities.
  • Conducting recruitment & outreach activities and other student support service-related projects/programs in partnership with various campus advising departments.
  • Working on a team and/or in a collaborative work-setting, multi-tasking and creative problem-solving, and working in a high-activity student-centered customer service environment.
