Position Summary

The College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) seeks a highly motivated individual to provide comprehensive research administration, program management, and faculty research support services to A&S researchers. This will be a new hybrid position which will combine traditional Faculty Research Support Officer (FRSO) responsibilities with post award program management services to strengthen grant competitiveness, reduce administrative burden, and advance the strategic research priorities of the College.

This position will work closely with the College FRSOs, faculty investigators, A&S leadership, the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), and other central research units to provide high-quality, policy-compliant, and responsive services. This position plays a key role in building research capacity, fostering collaboration, and supporting sustainable growth in external funding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide program management post award support for the Social Sciences and Humanities departments, with potential for expansion across A&S.
  • Serve as the point of contact for departments with post award questions.
  • Work with departments to troubleshoot problems and escalate complex issues to OSP or the Research Support Manager when necessary.
  • Support new faculty with post-award orientation and departmental resource guidance.
  • Guide faculty through sponsor guidelines, proposal development, and submission requirements.
  • Develop and review proposal budgets, budget justifications, cost share documentation, award budget sheets, and subrecipient materials.
  • Ensure timely and accurate routing of proposals through Streamlyne and sponsor systems (e.g., NIH ASSIST, Research.gov, Grants.gov).
  • Interpret and communicate sponsor and institutional policies and connect faculty with central resources as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with five years of relevant program management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear guidance and present information effectively.
  • Experience providing both pre-award and post-award research administration support, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations and sponsor guidelines (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE, DOD, NEH, major foundations).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant budget preparation, compliance review, and financial management of sponsored projects.
  • Strong program management and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate projects, track outcomes, and improve processes.
  • Experience working with faculty in the Social Sciences and Humanities, and the ability to adapt research support across diverse disciplines.
  • Proficiency with UNM systems (Streamlyne, Smartsheet, Banner) or comparable electronic research administration and tracking platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and central research offices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
