|Position Summary||UNM is seeking aResearch Assistant Professor to support the recently designated SustainableWater Grand Challenge at UNM. This is a non-tenure-track, faculty position forone year, with the opportunity for 1-2 year renewal. The position will be based in the BiologyDepartment or with the option of a secondary appointment in the Department ofCivil and Environmental Engineering (depending on interests). We seek candidates with expertise inhydrology, watershed dynamics, sustainability science, public policy, aquatic/riparianecology, water governance, environmental social science or related field. This position will help build collaborative,interdisciplinary networks with researchers and stakeholders both at UNM andthroughout the state working on issues related to water scarcity. The central goals of this Grand Challenge areto work with others across UNM and the state to enhance knowledge of 1) howwater quantity, quality and delivery impact both human and natural ecosystems;2) water governance challenges, 3) proposed solutions, and 4) best practices totrain the next generation of water experts who will become key players inaddressing these issues in the future. There are opportunities for collaboration with many programs, centersand institutes across UNM. We arespecifically looking for a candidate with demonstrated research expertise atthe interface between policy and science with respect to water-related issues,to work with Principal Investigators and stakeholders, to develop and deliverimpactful metrics that we can use to both help guide our research efforts andmeasure its success. |
The successful candidate must have completed all degreerequirements by the appointment date which is a relevant Ph.D. degree.Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to workcooperatively among a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, industryand agency groups is essential.
