Position Summary

The Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology has an opening in the laboratory
of Dr. Alison Kell for a Research Scientist 2 position.
Work in the Kell lab is focused on understanding host innate immunity and pathogenesis of
emerging and re-emerging RNA viruses using in vitro and in vivo laboratory models in
BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories.

The successful applicant will perform laboratory duties including, but not limited to,
molecular cloning, tissue culture, western blotting, qPCR, and ELISA assays. Previous
experience in BSL3/ABSL3 is preferred but not required. Position will also involve
maintenance and ordering of laboratory equipment and supplies.
Funding for this position is available for 3 years.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year or more molecular biology laboratory experience
  • Experience working in BSL3/ABSL3
  • Supervisory or management experience
