Position Summary

This is a Term position. Term end date is one year from date of hire; renewable based on funding availability.

The Center for Advanced Research Computing is the hub of computational research at UNM and one of the largest computing centers in the State of New Mexico. It is an interdisciplinary community that uses computational resources to create new research insights. The goal is to lead and grow the computational research community at UNM.

Under faculty supervision, plan, coordinate, engineer, andimplement research software for high performance scientific computing,including but not limited to (1) benchmarks or applications based onleading-edge numerical methods, (2) frameworks and abstractions to facilitatethe implementation of leading-edge numerical methods, and (3) softwareengineering methods to facilitate maintenance and testing of research software.This includes using scientific and software engineering expertise to design,implement, debug, measure, and analyze the scientific research software.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience programming high performance computing in C, C++, and/or Fortran
  • Expertise using one or more modern performance portability or GPU programming frameworks such as CUDA, Kokkos, or Raja.
  • Experience performing independent, original research in the area of high performance computing.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in software for high performance scientific computing.
  • Experience and knowledge of software development best practices, workflows, and tools such as git, cmake, and other Linux/UNIX programming tools.
  • Experience writing scientific reports and manuscripts based on original research.
  • Knowledge of basic scientific and/or numerical computing techniques
