Position Summary

Under general supervision, assists in monitoring and coordinating general campus safety program, including safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of university-wide safety programs such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire protection, and other OSHA safety compliance programs.
  • Advises the university community regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure regulatory complianceas mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and New Mexico Environment Department (NMED).
  • Participates in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting.
  • Conducts routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of university facilities.
  • Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous inspections of university facilities.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • A valid New Mexico driver's license will be required if a motor vehicle must be operated on the job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Specific personnel training is required for employees working with hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Skill in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA and NFPA safety standards.

2. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

3. Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.

4. Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols, and/or procedures.

5. Laser Safety trained.

6. Strong chemistry or chemical safety background.

7. IACUC Experience.
