Position Summary

TheDepartment of Communication and Journalism at the University of New Mexico invitesapplications for a full-time, 9-month appointment at the rank of Senior LecturerIII to begin August 2020. The department seeks to hire a communicationgeneralist with preparation in a variety of theoretical and methodologicalapproaches. Specifically, the department seeks a Senior Lecturer III withknowledge and experience teaching intercultural communication, journalism, andmedia studies at the undergraduate level, and with knowledge and experienceteaching intercultural communication, media studies, theory, and researchmethods at the graduate level.

In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to theDepartment’s growing online curricula and thus have experience teaching, developing,and/or revising online courses as well as face-to-face courses. The Department Chair and University policiesdetermine workload. All Lecturers are reviewed annually.


Minimum Qualifications:
-Doctorate in Communication or closely related field, completed by start date of appointment.
-At least five years of post-secondaryteaching experience at the rank of Lecturer.
-At least two years of professional experiencein journalism, media, or other communication field(s).

Preferred Qualifications:
-Strong record of effective teaching across the communication curriculum.
-Experience and interest in teaching undergraduate courses in intercultural communication, media studies, and multimedia journalism.
-Experience and interest in teaching graduate courses in intercultural communication, media studies, research methods, and communication/media theories.
-Experience and interest in serving on graduate students’ thesis/dissertation committees.
-Experience and interest in teaching, developing/designing, and revising online courses.
-Demonstrated departmental, institutional, and/or disciplinary service.
-Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
