Position Summary | The UNM Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a Sr. Medical Practice Specialist to analyze and optimize clinical revenue generating operations in compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines dealing with the conduct of a medical practice. This position develops and implements business strategies, policies, protocols, and systems that improve practice productivity, efficiency and customer service. Serving in a leadership role, the selected candidate will lead in the evaluation and redesign of business plans of a large, growing and multi-division department. The Sr. Medical Practice Specialist will be the point person for revenue cycle monitoring and decision support analytics maintaining a cohesive framework of issues/solutions that is understood by leadership and maintained as central to mission while ensuring and protecting the integrity of the data that is influencing the department's strategic planning. Applicants should have experience using Microsoft Excel and other data management software with complex data sets. The Sr. Medical Practice Specialist should be comfortable communicating and training members of leadership and groups of faculty providers, as well as implementing process change. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required • Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial and operational data and prepare business reports, projections, and recommendations. • Working knowledge and strategic understanding of medical billing and reimbursement principles, procedures, and documentation. • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with practicing physicians and clinical management. • Knowledge of current legislation and developing legal issues and trends in medical billing, coding, and associated documentation. • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the business and operating characteristics of a large, complex medical practice. • Ability to develop, prepare, and implement business plans and resource/revenue generating strategies. • Skill in the analysis and evaluation of clinical billing operations and provider productivity This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the advancement of our department’s mission through innovative leadership, strategic thinking, and operational excellence. Minimum Qualifications | High school diploma or GED; at least 9 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
