The Anderson School of Management (ASM) is seeking an experienced, student-centered academic advisor to fill the position of Senior Academic Advisor for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program.
The position of Sr. Academic Advisor is essential to support the advisement needs of undergraduate students that further promote goals of ASM and UNM to provide high quality services that positively impact the retention, graduation, and overall success of undergraduate students. This position works with pre-business and BBA students from orientation to graduation and ensures students are optimizing their academic success and preparation for their profession. The undergraduate advisement team at Anderson applies a comprehensive scope to student advisement with practices and policies designed to best meet the needs of students. In individual appointments, workshops, and email communications, the undergraduate academic advisor provides necessary support for time sensitive and in-depth approaches to the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff at ASM. In addition, this position critically evaluates and implements improvements in programming, policies, and procedures that positively impact the experiences and outcomes for students. The responsibilities of this position are multifaceted and have significant implications for the advisement services of students at ASM.
This individual will be responsible for providing academic advisement, guidance and progress-tracking for meeting program mileposts for incoming and continuing students. They will assist in recruiting activities to attract new students and coordinate outreach and orientation. They will also provide support in the development, implementation and marketing of programs and should be comfortable making public presentations.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of producing high-quality results, successfully maintaining progress across multiple projects and deadlines, working efficiently with minimal supervision, and adapting to changing priorities. This person will be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as evidenced by the applicant’s cover letter and resume. This dynamic individual will demonstrate excellence in customer service and the ability to work with teams as well as a variety of students, faculty, staff and members of the business community in order to promote student success and align with the vision and mission of ASM and UNM.
Performs integrated academic advisement and consultation of prospective, current, and former students within a major college or equivalent academic unit. Assesses academic level and advises on academic programs and changes. Develops academic plans and class schedules. Analyzes applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts for entry and exit from the university. Maintains appropriate records. Coordinates or performs special functions associated with an academic function, such as assisting with curriculum planning, committee service, and guiding the work of assistants or work study students. May serve as specialist in certification, athletic eligibility, and/or licensure requirements.

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
UNM Core Curriculum and Anderson Pre-Admission requirements, undergraduate degree program requirements, and New Mexico Articulation policies.
Evaluating and reviewing transcripts from a variety of institutions around the country.
Effective written and communication skills as demonstrated in applicant cover letter, resume, and writing sample.
Outreach, recruitment, orientation, and retention program implementation skills.
Organizing and coordinating student and/or special events.
Academic advisement, program coordination.
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends. Must be able to attend recruitment events off campus.
Excellent customer service and team based skills and ability to work with a varied student population as well as a variety of ASM stakeholders, which includes faculty, staff, and the business community.
Demonstrated skills in multitasking, preparing reports, problem solving, and analyzing program, university, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.
Extensive demonstrated database skills.
Writing sample will respond to specific questions listed in the job posting.
