Position Summary

The Sr. Program Manager position, Gr 14, will serve as the Center for Native American Health’s (CNAH) Indigenous Public Health Institute Manager and will be under the supervision of the Public Health Institute Director/CNAH Associate Director. CNAH has at least three Public Health Initiatives to be developed, implemented, monitored, and/or evaluated.

The Public Health Initiatives include addressing substance use disorders in Tribal sovereign Nations and urban Native American communities, public health training for Tribal Leaders, and a public health certificate program. The position will also work collaboratively with the CNAH Research Core to implement research findings in community-based educational offerings and with the CNAH Student and Tribal Health Workforce Development Core to include Native American health sciences students in the public health core activities, and to assist with CNAH’s Indians into Medicine grant.

The Sr. Program Manager will seek funding to support core activities and create a roster of public health offerings for Tribal Nations and urban Native Communities in NM, regionally and nationally. The position is expected to engage local and national American Indian Tribal leaders and community organizations, national American Indian public health organizations, and the Indian Health Service to evaluate and address Native American public health needs, especially in New Mexico.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; two of which are management level experience.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in Public Health
  • Knowledge of local Native American communities, protocols, public health needs, health disparities, and health assets
  • Skill in relationship building and participatory approaches to engagement.
  • Skill in community based teaching
  • Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in Native American communities and organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing on campus and with American Indian Tribes, Nations, and Pueblos.
