Position Summary

This position will be located in the UNM Prevention and Population Sciences (PPS) division and will be part of a multi-disciplinary group of researchers who are conducting a range of studies designed to improve health-related social needs and health.  This position will work with existing principal investigators in PPS to plan, design, and conduct research and present findings for multiple research studies.  The Senior Research Scientist 1 will apply advanced analytic techniques to develop research designs, create data collection and sampling plans, and analyze data.  This position will obtain and analyze administrative data as well as primary data.  This position will also communicate research findings to the scientific community in peer-reviewed journal articles and also to policymakers via presentations, research briefs, or other means.  The Senior Research Scientist 1 is expected to be familiar with advanced statistical techniques in areas such as power calculations, weighting, and sample plans.  This position will also contribute to the preparation of grant and contract proposals. 

 

Duties and responsibilities for this position may include:

 

  1. Assist in developing research designs for complex projects.
  2. Undertaking power calculations to determine sample sizes and research designs.
  3. Develop sample plans for data collection.
  4. Assist in original data collection for multimodal research projects.
  5. Obtain, clean and analyze administrative data.
  6. Create data analysis plans and analyze data according to plans. Analyses will include stratified and clustered data, so advance modeling and analysis techniques will be required. 
  7. Report results from research by preparing articles for peer-reviewed journals.  
  8. Communicate findings from multiple projects to policymakers and other stakeholders, through in-person presentations, research briefs and other means.  
  9. Contribute to the preparation of grant and contract proposals.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with health promotion and improving health-related social needs with diverse populations in New Mexico.
  • Advanced degree in statistics or other field with extensive statistical training.
  • Experience analyzing primary data as well as administrative data.
