Notice: Funding available for 12 months from date of hire; continuance beyond that date is subject to the Department's operational needs as outlined in UBPPM #3200, Employee Classifications, http://policy.unm.edu/university-policies/3000/3200.html.

The Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Preventive Medicine, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Sr. Statistician to support the design and analysis of research studies in the Division. The successful candidate will have expertise in data management and analysis using SPSS, SAS or R, data quality control, and an understanding of the analysis of clinical research studies. The Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Preventive Medicine has a robust research portfolio that includes research studies based on randomized controlled trials, observational studies, and large administrative databases to address a broad variety of health services and other research questions. The Division maintains close ties to many UNM Health Sciences Center departments, centers, and colleges, and the opportunities for carrying out research in nephrology and other clinical areas are extensive.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide biostatistical support to division members and their affiliates.
  2. Conduct appropriate statistical analysis under the supervision of faculty biostatisticians.
  3. Design, test, implement, and document statistical computer programming in high level statistical software packages, including SPSS, SAS and R.
  4. Work with data programmers and managers to access large data sets and extract variables and individuals from the data sets to define analytical files which can be used to address research questions.
  5. Develop, document, and maintain analytic data files.
  6. Write summary reports and create graphs and tables of results for manuscripts and research proposals.
  7. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development and review of study protocols.
  8. Participate in internal research and quality control activities.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS in statistics, applied statistics or closely related field
  • Experience performing statistical analysis of biomedical data
  • Experience using SPSS, SAS or R in statistical data management and analysis
  • Experience writing, testing, implementing, and documenting statistical computer software
    programs
  • Experience accessing data in large data sets, extracting subsets of variables and
    individuals to define data files suitable for analysis
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time to complete multiple simultaneous projects
