Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (HSC) Office for Community Health (OCH) contributes to HSC’s vision of working with community partners to improve health and health equity in New Mexico. The OCH oversees a range of programs, initiatives and activities that address statewide health priorities. These include: 1) Leading efforts to address the social determinants of health (SDoH) and demonstrate concrete improvement in health and health equity; 2) Linking UNM resources to support community priorities through our innovative health extension program; 3) Building healthcare workforce for rural and underserved communities through educational programming ;4) Developing and implementing community health worker programs to address the SDoH, and 5) Evaluating the impact of our programs to inform future health equity work.

The OCH is seeking a values-driven, process-oriented strategic operations director with experience scaling an organization, leading a management team, and supporting others to deliver measurable, effective results. The candidate will oversee its operations and administrative functions, as well as provide guidance and support in the expansion of OCH’s role throughout New Mexico to address statewide health priorities.

This position will be part of the OCH Executive Leadership Team to drive forward the OCH vision for action. As such, the successful candidate will have the following qualities:

· Ability to think strategically and incorporate these ideas into a detailed operational plan

· Proven track record of reaching goals, and making effective organizational decisions to deliver measurable results

· Experience building a supportive, team-oriented organizational culture

· Thorough understanding of finance, human resources, strategic planning, business analysis, information systems, marketing and project management

This position will also be responsible for overseeing the fiscal and operational management of a new, multi-site, multi-million dollar collaborative agreement, as well as overseeing the administrative center for the entire unit, and lending support and service to health extension and community health worker initiatives.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in change management and organizational development
  • Knowledge of UNM Systems
  • Analytical skills to evaluate data and make operational decisions
  • Prior experience with strategic planning, project management, budgeting, business analysis, finance, information systems, human resources and marketing
  • Experience working in public health and/or community health
