Position Summary

The College Enrichment Program (CEP) serves as one of the oldest and largest student support services on UNM - Main Campus and is pleased to announce the opening of a Student Success Specialist, Sr position!

CEP is looking for a team member who is passionate about helping students with their transition to higher education and attaining collegiate success. This position provides holistic support in the areas of Orientation, Transition, and Retention for students at The University of New Mexico. Though CEP is open to all students, emphasis is placed on assisting students who are low-income, first generation, at-risk, and/or from backgrounds that are underrepresented at the university.

The CEP Student Success Specialist will also be expected to:

  • Work directly with students and aid in their transition to UNM by providing holistic academic support, answering inquiries, resolving problems, assisting in course registration, understanding financial aid, etc.
  • Work directly with faculty, staff and students to provide support and collaboration to better serve at-risk student populations
  • Promote and develop higher education experiences for students by coordinating and implementing campus-wide retention programs, special events, and support services for students.
  • Help increase college access and transition into UNM by recruiting students, hosting College Success Workshops in various communities, and aiding students and families in applying for admission and financial aid.
  • Absorb key roles within Orientation, Transition and Retention to aid in the administration of New Student Orientation
  • Hire, Supervise, Train student employees

This position is multifaceted and impacts many key performance initiatives the university promotes to ensure that students are successful at UNM. As a result, the ability and willingness to collaborate with other departments, academic units, internal/external donors, and other university stakeholders is essential.

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education or a related field
  • Experience working with under-represented student populations
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Experience with New Student Orientation and/or organizing large events/conferences
  • Experience with the college admissions / scholarship processes
