Position Summary

Are you a seasoned utilities maintenance professional with a knack for leadership and a passion for ensuring operational excellence? The University of New Mexico is seeking a dedicated and skilled Supervisory Utilities Maintenance Leader to oversee the maintenance and efficiency of our critical utility systems. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in managing and enhancing the reliability of our steam, chilled water, potable water, compressed air, natural gas, and electric power systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Supervision: Lead a team of maintenance personnel, guiding them through hiring, training, performance evaluations, and day-to-day operations. Your role is crucial in fostering a cooperative and productive work environment.
  • Utility Plant Management: Oversee the maintenance and operation of various utility plants, including electrical substations, high-pressure boilers, chillers, and compressors. Ensure these systems run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous inspections and maintain compliance with mechanical codes, safety regulations, and institutional standards. Your attention to detail ensures our operations meet the highest quality and safety benchmarks.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze operational and maintenance data to preemptively address potential issues and optimize system performance. Prepare detailed reports and documentation for compliance and historical records.
  • Training & Improvement: Champion the use of our computerized maintenance management system. Provide ongoing training to your team and drive continuous improvement in safety, environmental policies, and divisional performance.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Must have Basic First Aid and Adult CPR/AED Certificates or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Certification/LicensureCurrent NMCID Journeyman Plumbing/Gas (JPG) and one of the following NMCID Mechanical Contractor's MM98, MM1, MM2 or MM4. ORCurrent New Mexico Journeyman Refrigeration (JR), EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification, one other New Mexico Journeyman Licensure, and one of the following New Mexico Mechanical Contractor's MM98, MM3 or MM4.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Additional Certifications: Certifications in HVAC systems, advanced power plant operations, or other relevant fields.
  • Experience: More than 10 years of progressive experience in utility maintenance and operations, including supervisory roles in a large institutional or industrial setting.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in advanced data analysis tools, predictive maintenance technologies, and complex troubleshooting techniques.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record in leading diverse teams, managing large-scale projects, and implementing process improvements.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local regulations specific to utility plant operations and safety.
