Position Summary

This position will supervise and lead the Materials Management functional unit, responsible for the following areas:

a) Developing, communicating employee performance standards, motivation, and success. Makes recommendations for hiring and firing.

b) Develops unit-staffing model and sets work schedules, ensuring adequate coverage of the facility. Assists staff with problem resolution and/or escalation as necessary.

c) Manages shipping/receiving, logistics supply chain, product and equipment inventory; develops and implements TMA inventory tracking system, SKUs, and appropriate par levels. Ensures that customers are provided with required materials in a timely manner, and coordinates transshipment of supplies.

d) Reviews inventory records for expired product, analyzes stock levels and material turnover rates to optimize inventory levels. Leads and conducts periodic inventory audits, reconciles, and makes on-hand adjustments.

e) Responsible for coordinating and ensuring proper equipment maintenance. Responsible for ensuring employee training is standardized, timely, and current, including PIT, DOT, etc. and ensures a safe working environment for team members. Operates powered industrial equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks.

f) Develops and implements unit goals and objectives, policies, operational procedures/processes, and guidelines. Coordinates and communicates with department leadership and external stakeholders during procedure development to ensure optimal efficiency and mitigate unintended down-stream consequences.

g) Sets continual quality improvement goals, measurement methods, and monitors performance; prepares reports for management.

h) Prepares and solicits bid requests for services, monitors contractor performance for adherence to terms and conditions.

i) Assists with budgetary planning for functional unit; makes recommendations to department, and monitors/minimizes capital and operating costs.

j) Ensures unit adherence to department policies and procedures, including safety, environmental, infection control standards, Joint Commission accreditation requirements, local, state, and federal regulations for hazardous/non-hazardous waste streams and sterile supplies.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 125 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 500 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provided cancer care for nearly 60 percent of the adults and children in New Mexico affected by cancer. They treated 11,249 patients in 84,875 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. These patients came from every county in the State. More than 12 percent of these patients participated in cancer clinical trials testing new cancer treatments and 35 percent of patients participated in other clinical research studies, including tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The 130 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded almost $60 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects and published 301 high quality publications. Promoting economic development, they filed more than 30 new patents in FY16, and since 2010, have launched 11 new biotechnology start-up companies. Scientists associated with the UNMCCC Cancer Control & Disparities have conducted more than 60 statewide community-based cancer education, prevention, screening, and behavioral intervention studies involving more than 10,000 New Mexicans. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 230 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

a) At least three years of demonstrated experience with logistics and supply chain management in a healthcare environment.

b) American Hospital Association (AHA) Certified Material & Resource Professional (CMRP), or ability to attain within six months of hire.

c) Bachelor’s Degree; at least five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
