Position Summary

The UNM-Valencia Campus Upward Bound Program is takingapplications for Teacher, Pre-College Programs. This is a grant-funded on-callposition with current funding available through 08/31/2024. This positionoversees certain day-to-day aspects of the Upward Bound Program including butnot limited to tutoring, leading workshops, teaching, and executing collegepreparation/academic lessons for high school students.

Thisperson will assist with tutoring and instructing during the fall and spring.This position provide support either in math, science, language art, or in anyother discipline at any of the three-target area high school (Valencia, Belen,Los Lunas High Schools) including the UNM-Valencia Campus. Practice variouspedological practices to enhance student academic progress as well as gain theskills necessary to transition from high school to higher education. Supportand engage students in college preparatory topics. Document student progress,attendance, and any other type of student tracking task.

Locatedabout 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County, the University ofNew Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of NewMexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated aHispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on teaching excellence,Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical vocationalprograms, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/College courses toValencia and Socorro Counties. The faculty and staff serve a student bodyof approximately 1,900 students per semester. UNM has earned the platinum-leveldistinction from FamilyFriendlyNM.org for its workplace policies.

Conditions of Employment

  • Elementary or secondary level teaching certification may be a requirement for specified positions in this classification.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience working with at-risk and first-generation college students
  • Curriculum planning and implementation of a program including community outreach
  • Ability to tutor in Math including Algebra and Geometry
