Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is looking for a Teaching Lab Tech for our upper-level undergraduate teaching labs. This tech will be working with a current team of other Techs in a dynamic group supporting numerous students per semester. This position requires successful teamwork and an excitement for an academic environment. Student support is essential!

Duties include: Preparing chemicals, lab equipment, and student drawers for teaching lab. Maintains laboratory facilities and stockroom for experiments. Minor maintenance of upper-level lab course instrumentation, such as, but not limited to, GC-MS, FT-IR, and HPLC. Maintaining a web server for student data submission. Grading student data submissions. Plans laboratory exercises with faculty. Tests and conducts experiments, exercises, and demonstrations. Provides technical assistance to staff and teaching assistants concerning experimental preparations and procedures. Ensures compliance with health and safety standards of laboratory operations.

The working schedule for this position is variable dependent on the lab courses scheduled and can be negotiated with position supervisor. Weekends are not anticipated, evening hours may be required, overtime hours may be required periodically.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in the Chemistry, Biology or Bio-Chem preferred.
  • Experience working in and providing technical support for an undergraduate teaching lab.
  • Experience preparing chemical solutions and setting up experiments for undergraduate teaching labs.
  • Experience managing undergraduate teaching lab facility.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
