Position SummaryThe Biology department at the University of New Mexico (UNM)anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate levelcourses in the Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027 Semesters.
Anticipated openings will be for Adjuncts who can teachcourses in a broad range of subject areas, including but not limited to thesubject areas covered in the following UNM courses:

BIOL 419/519: SW Field Ecology
BIOL 351: Microbiology
BIOL 302C: Genetics
BIOL 2225: Anatomy and Physiology II

The Biology department is seeking qualified temporary parttime faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes invarious disciplines as specified above. Instructors are responsible for allaspects of any class they are teaching. Responsibilities will include but notbe limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering thecourse curriculum, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, andassessing student learning outcomes as outlined by the Chair of the departmentor Director of the program.
Positions are contingent upon need each semester asdetermined by student enrollment levels, courses on the current courseschedule, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filledor eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or addcourses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to theChair of the Biology department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To teach courses as described above are determined by HigherLearning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be metby one of these ways:
Master's Degree or higher in Biology or subfield for whichyou are applying;
Or
Master's degree or higher in a field other than Biology thatis related to the position for which you are applying;
Or
Successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hoursin an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you areapplying (i.e. BA or BS degree for example).

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Two years professional experience in the specialization orsubfield
2. An earneddoctorate from an accredited institution
3. Successfulteaching experience in a post-secondary institution
4. Successfulexperience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (such asFace-to-Face, Remote, and Fully Online)
5. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
