Temp Parttime Faculty-Massage Therapy Instructor - req# 32668

The UNM Department of Massage, Taos Branch, seeks to hire a Temporary Part-Time Faculty member to teach one of the following subject areas for the Massage Therapy Certificate Program.

MAS 293 Intro to Trauma Informed Massage - Weekend workshop 1 credit hour
This course explores the impact of trauma on behavior and health, focusing on its physical manifestation in the body. Topics include the neuroscience of trauma and attachment, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and the connection between PTSD/CPTSD and bodily sensations. Participants will learn about Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, neuroplasticity, and Internal Family Systems, with practical methods to help clients feel safe and address trauma-related chronic conditions. Will analyze case studies of trauma in various body areas, including chronic pain and digestive issues, and engage in hands-on techniques such as massage and Craniosacral Therapy. This interactive course emphasizes both theory and practice.

Topics include the neuroscience of trauma and attachment, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), PTSD/CPTSD, Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, neuroplasticity, Internal Family Systems, and grief processing. Practical strategies for helping clients feel safe without triggering them are covered, along with signals that trauma may be connected to chronic conditions. Case studies explore trauma in relation to chronic pain, migraines, neck and shoulder pain, pelvic floor issues, digestive problems, and autoimmune disorders.

MAS 253 Deep Tissue Techniques in Massage Therapy - 16 Weeks 3 credit hour

This course will provide the opportunity for students to learn deep tissue techniques in massage. Students will continue developing their skills in Swedish massage, while learning application of deep tissue theory and hands-on modalities.

MAS 254 Myofascial and Myoskeletal Techniques in Massage Therapy - 16 Weeks 3 credit hour

This course will provide the opportunity for students to learn myofascial and myoskeletal techniques in massage. Students will further their understanding of myofascial anatomy trains and learn incorporation of myoskeletal techniques.

We pay $1,017.60 to $1,100.63 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ education qualifications. This posting is for face-to-face delivery of courses.

Minimum Qualifications:

To teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in these ways:

• Hold a valid massage therapist license in New Mexico
• Have completed at least 50 contact hours of instructional experience of professional teaching or workshop instruction and
• Have practiced massage therapy for a minimum of two years within the past three years. [16.7.5.12 NMAS-N, 11/15/19]

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly a community college.
• A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, and working with broadly diverse communities.
• Candidate will be able to use the technology platforms at the university to enhance and deliver course work.
