Position Summary


The Division of Physical Therapyin the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the University ofNew Mexico has a temporary part-timefaculty position available with responsibilities in two courses: i) PT613Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy I, and ii) PT655 Cardiovascularand Pulmonary Physical Therapy II.

PT613 serves as the initial cardiopulmonary-oriented course deliveredin the 1st year curriculum. Theprimary focus is to educate students on foundational cardiopulmonary knowledgeand examination techniques necessary for the entry-level therapist. The course covers both didactic and hands-onmaterial, and is slated to begin on March 17, 2025 and ends May 6, 2025. Thecourse meets 5 hours per week:

  • Mondays, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Wednesdays, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

PT655 serves as the follow-up cardiopulmonary-oriented course deliveredin the 2nd year curriculum. The primary focus is to inform studentson exercise principles, physical therapy treatment, and exercise program designin the cardiovascular and pulmonary populations. The course covers both didactic and hands-onmaterial beginning on March 18, 2025 and ends May 6, 2025. The course meets 6 hours per week:

  • Tuesdays, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Thursdays, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

The scheduling requirements for this position are listed above;however, some flexibility may be required to accommodate testing schedules andobserved university closures.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years’ experience as a physical therapist
  • Current, active New Mexico Physical Therapy license
  • Masters in Physical Therapy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years’ experience working in a dedicated cardiopulmonaryenvironment (i.e., cardiac rehab, cardiothoracic surgery unit, pulmonary unit)
  • 1 or more years’ experience working in an intensive care unit
  • Advanced degree (i.e., DPT, (t)DPT, PhD)
  • Served as the primary clinical instructor to at least 1 full-timestudent
  • Evidence of continuing education in cardiopulmonary assessment (i.e.,American Board of Physical Therapy Specialty Certification, continuingeducation courses attended, Combined Section Meeting Programs, New MexicoPhysical Therapy Association Programs)
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and studentsuccess, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
