Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance, the Trade Tech Helper works as part of the RLSH facilities services team in maintaining quality campus-living facilities. UNM Residence Life and Student Housing (RLSH) endeavors to foster inclusive, community based living environments consciously designed for our residents’ personal growth and academic success within well-maintained facilities.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs a variety of clean­up tasks at job sites and other locations
  • Picks up and delivers materials to job sites
  • Assists higher level trades technicians in facility repairs and maintenance
  • Unloads delivery trucks, operates forklifts and other equipment
  • Performs general maintenance, custodial and trash removal tasks
  • Performs basic grounds maintenance, including raking, weeding, irrigation, pruning, and clean up
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Supporting 24-hour residential facilities
  • Performing maintenance, custodial, and other tasks for a residential facility
  • Performing general maintenance repairs
  • Contributing to a successful team
  • Understanding, following, and enforcing safety procedures
  • Operating machinery and equipment
