The UNM-Valencia Campus is seeking a Tutor. This is a grant funded position that ends 09/30/2020 and will be renewed annually based on availability of federal funding. The position is expected to expire on 09/30/2021.

The Tutor will have direct oversight of peer tutors in the STEM Resource Center, participate in hiring, training, scheduling, approval of time sheets, completing hiring paperwork and maintaining confidential peer tutor files. The Tutor will develop proficiency with the tutor tracking software for reporting purposes. The Tutor will participate in tutoring math and science classes offered at the UNM Valencia Campus according to his/her own proficiency. Duties to include assisting with hiring, scheduling, training and evaluating peer tutors. Collaborate with other tutoring staff to coordinate services in the STEM Center. Responsible for all equipment in the STEM Center including inventory, requesting maintenance as needed, and training on proper use. Maintains a clean and comfortable study environment in the STEM Center.

Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia county, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico which functions as a community college in the region and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, Valencia Campus offers academic transfer programs, technical vocational programs, Adult Basic Education, and Dual Credit High School/College courses to Valencia and Socorro Counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body of over 2,000 credit students per semester.

  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

One year of full-time college; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience In/With:

  • Tutoring a variety of subjects especially math and sciences at the undergraduate level
  • Employment in a lead capacity
  • Ability to collect and analyze tutoring data for reporting purposes
  • Completed math courses to at least Calculus II with at least a 3.0 grade
  • CRLA or other nationally recognized tutor training to a "Master Tutor" level
