Position Summary

Provides academic tutoring services on an on-call basis for UNM Student Athletes

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and academic integrity at all times.
  • Comply with all UNM, NCAA and MWC rules and regulations through continuous training and attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Meet with designated students to proactively develop foundational skills, and/or content mastery.
  • Proactively lead tutoring sessions with a study plan and schedule based upon the class syllabus.
  • Attend sessions on time and serve as a role model for student-athletes.
  • Complete detailed session reports at the end of each session via the LCSAS reporting system.
  • Communicate with the Learning Strategist/Tutor Coordinator regarding any issues or concerns with student performance.
  • Attend required tutor orientation prior to the beginning of each semester.
  • Communicate regularly with the LCSAS Tutor Coordinator.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the USUNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

One year of full-time college; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of at least 45 UNM credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, with preference given to graduate students and 60 plus credit hour Juniors and Seniors. Exceptions to this qualification granted only with unit director approval.
  • Must be able to work through the end of the semester, including finals week.
  • Successful completion of the course for which tutoring services are being provided or a higher-level course in that subject area with a grade of B or higher.
  • Ability to effectively explain concepts in multiple ways.
  • Effectively communicate study strategies to support academic success.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Possess good organizational skills and complete paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Exhibit patience and positive attitudes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong adherence to institutional, conference, and NCAA rules.
  • As employees of UNM, tutors must adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act while also maintaining strict confidentiality.

ERB StatementTemporary and on-call employees working an appointment percentage of 26 (.26 FTE) or greater, per quarter, will be eligible to earn retirement service credits and thus are required to make New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB) contributions.
