Position Summary

The Division of Cardiology within the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time Unit Administrator 2. This position provides critical leadership in fiscal management, faculty affairs, fellowship program support, and operational oversight. The Unit Administrator partners with the Division Chief and Operations Manager in strategic and operational decision-making and is a key member of the Division’s leadership team. This role supervises staff, provides functional leadership to faculty and trainees, and ensures compliance with UNM, SOM, and accrediting body standards.

The Division of Cardiology is one of the largest divisions within Internal Medicine, with 17 faculty members, 12 fellows, 4 Advanced Practice Providers, and multiple clinical and research programs. The Unit Administrator supports the Division’s missions in patient care, education, and research by ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and long-range planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct divisional operations including budgeting, procurement, compliance, and strategic planning.
  • Oversee faculty affairs such as recruitment, credentialing, promotion, and tenure processes.
  • Supervise administrative staff and the Fellowship Coordinator, ensuring compliance with ACGME standards.
  • Support research administration, including grant management and reporting.
  • Coordinate meetings, events, and special projects that advance divisional initiatives.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 2 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets, analyze variances, and ensure fiscal accountability.
  • Strong record of coordinating faculty recruitment, credentialing, and professional review processes in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with financial/HR systems such as Banner Finance, and advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven ability to supervise and develop staff, including coaching, mentoring, delegation, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience in program development and oversight of new initiatives, preferably in an academic healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of ACGME fellowship program administration and compliance requirements strongly preferred.
