Position Summary

In this role, you’ll provide advanced mechanical engineering services for the utility plants and distribution systems. You will be involved in the planning, development, and implementation of campus-wide construction and repair programs, ensuring the continued success and growth of our university’s infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation, coordination, and leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of campus projects.
  • Serve as the project manager for comprehensive engineering design projects, ensuring they meet all engineering standards and compliance requirements.
  • Review and approve the work of external engineering consultants, ensuring designs align with project specifications and regulations.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyze complex engineering problems across campus, providing creative solutions to development needs.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate engineering solutions.
  • Plan and develop project budgets, ensuring cost-effective implementation strategies.
  • Represent the engineering discipline in strategic facilities planning across the university.
  • Supervise and mentor engineers and technical support staff.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned to support engineering projects.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) may be required, depending upon field of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a directly related Engineering field; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Experience working in a utility plant
  • Experience with large boiler maintenance
  • Experience with large chiller maintenance
  • Experience with electric generation
  • Experience with utility piping systems
  • Experience managing utility or energy projects
