Position SummaryUNM’s UtilityServices is currently seeking a sharp, enthusiastic, professional to join ourUtilities team as the Utilities Maintenance/Mechanic Tech 1. The idealcandidate will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on utility plantequipment and systems to promote safe and efficient operation of high-pressuresteam boilers, refrigeration units, potable water systems, electricityproduction systems, and associated equipment. Works occasional16-hour shifts as scheduled or otherwise required.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR/AED Certificates within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Possession of at least one of the following New Mexico Journeyman's licenses/certifications; Plumbing (JP), Pipe Fitter (JPF), Gas (JG), Refrigeration (JR) or Plumber/Gas (JPG).

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial chillers and their auxiliary equipment.
  • Experience with industrialboilers and their auxiliary equipment.
