Position Summary

The Physical Education TeacherEducation (PETE) program at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invitesapplications for a faculty position beginning in the fall of the 2020-2021academic year: Visiting Assistant Professor in Physical Education TeacherEducation. This position is open to individuals with expertise in PhysicalEducation from a broad range of areas that have research interests pertainingto education.

UNM is the state’s flagshipresearch university as well as a Hispanic-Serving Institution classified aCarnegie Research University with Highest Research Activity. UNM also has strong connections with 23tribal nations located within New Mexico. As such, successful candidates must be committed to working with broadlydiverse student and community populations.

Responsibilities: Thesuccessful candidate with be expected to teach a variety of courses in physicaleducation at the undergraduate and graduate level, develop and maintain anactive research agenda, advise undergraduate and masters students, and conductappropriate service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Physical Education with a specialization in Curriculumand Instruction, Sport Pedagogy, or related field. Degree must be completed byJuly 31, 2020,
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct and publishoriginal research in the area of Physical Education or Sport Pedagogy,
  • Demonstrated ability or potential in teaching graduate and undergraduate levelcourses in PETE or C&I.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to chair or serve on doctoraldissertation committees and comprehensive exam committees for both M.S. andPh.D,
  • demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and studentsuccess, as well as working with broadly diverse communities,
  • evidence ofscholarly productivity or publication,
  • expertise with quantitative and/orqualitative research methods,
  • expertise in use of technology and onlineinstruction related to PETE or C&I,
  • previous experience teaching in aK-12 Physical Education environment.

Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
