Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a Directorof the UNM-Gallup Law Enforcement Academy (LEA). Thisposition will teach 12 credit hours per academic year of Law EnforcementAcademy courses and other coursework in their field of expertise and administerall operations of the LEA program including curriculum development andapproval, hiring of temporary part-time faculty, procuring facilities andequipment for education and training and collaborating with local city, countyand state law enforcement agencies. This position will have responsibilities inthe two areas of Program Administration (60%) and Teaching (40%).

We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of NewMexico and serve approximately 2200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque,UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation,Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. Thecity of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide anabundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinarycultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ fulltime and part-time faculty members. Weare fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associatedegrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificateprograms, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personalenrichment courses. UNM-Gallup servesmultiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle CollegeHigh School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

Assistant Professors at UNM-G have career advancementopportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook and faculty unioncollective bargaining agreement.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 12-credit hoursannually in Law Enforcement courses, maintain an active service record,participate in monthly Division meetings and execute other relevant duties asagreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chairagreement. In addition, the selected candidate will beexpected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionthrough actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactively managing bias.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a field related to the job duties, such as; Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, etc.
  • At least 5-years of experience in Law Enforcement
  • Ability to be certified by the State of New Mexico for Law Enforcement Academy instruction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3-years of experience in Law Enforcement instruction
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
